"When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe."   - John Muir

Digital connectedness makes us vulnerable.

Cyber threats are one of the defining perils of our time.  They threaten national and economic security and are aimed at governments, corporations, organizations of all types, and individuals.

Personal devices, shopping, entertainment, telecommunications, manufacturing, supply chains, enterprise networks and critical infrastructure; virtually every aspect of or national economy depends on digital systems and networks.

As a society we have driven full speed into a world of ever-expanding connectedness in business, government, media and our personal lives, many times without regard to the consequences.

In its most recent survey the Pew Research Internet Project reported that 61% of the respondents agreed that a major attack causing widespread harm would occur by 2025.  One of the respondents said: “Connectedness begets vulnerability.”  Many disagree with the likelihood a “Cyber Pearl Harbor” scenario, but perhaps even more troubling is the rampant hacking, theft, fraud, spying other bad behaviors are aimed at us, our networks and our data.

PURPOSE

The purpose of CYBERWEST is to bring together Government and businesses to:

  • Exchange information and learn in areas of policy and strategy; technology and R&D; workforce training and education; and economic, legal, regulatory and insurance impacts
  • Discuss cybersecurity issues and to focus on applied cybersecurity (i.e. implementing the NIST framework, R&D, legal and regulatory perspectives, state and local approaches)
  • Present content that attendees can take back and use in their organizations

The CYBERWEST Program

Special Program

 Wounded Heros Fishing Project

Wounded Heroes Fishing Project

Presentation on partnership with the Bureau of Land Management Fishing for Veterans Project

Thursday, March 26, 1:30 PM

Learn about the good work being done to heal veterans and their families through participation in FishingCommunity.org (FCO) programs.  An all volunteer, not-for-profit, FCO serves the greater veteran community  and is working to host with the Bureau of Land Management a project event at Lake Havasu.

“It is so quiet out here on the water."

"Thanks for your encouragement. These events do mean a lot to us.”

“I have been in therapy since I was assigned to river boats in Vietnam and this is the first time I have had the courage to get on a boat. Don’t worry; I am having the time of my life. Thank you for giving me the chance.”

“I have not seen my wife and kids smile this much since I got home.”

- comments from veterans participating in the WHFP

The Wounded Heroes Fishing Project (WHFP) is focusing on those in our community with the greatest need. Simply put, the number of military and veteran suicides is rising, and experts fear it will continue to rise despite aggressive suicide prevention campaigns by the government and private organizations.  WHFP is a project of FishingCommunity.org (FCO).

FCO is here to CONNECT and EMPOWER.  In addition to the suicide rates increasing, there are 22 million U.S. veterans, with more than six million receiving medical care every year.  Numerous organizations are trying to help veterans, but in an ad hoc manner; this has to stop!
