Purpose

The 4th DoD Open Technology Conference expands the dialogue between government and industry on the business case, security and real-world military applications for open source methods, technologies and products.

This conference will address many of these critical issues from the perspective of both warfighter benefits and challenges for DoD implementation, including impacts on information capabilities acquisition and potential changes to business models.

Attendees will hear from government leaders and industry experts on the use of open source software, open standards and open architectures across the military services, and potential for impact on defense industry business models.

Why Open Technologies?

Open technologies are changing how we work, as evidenced by the success of companies like Google and the penetration of Linux, MySql and Subversion in the commercial sector.

Increasingly DoD is looking at the “open” model as a potential way to achieve pieces of its net-centric vision.

• Open architecture has become the cornerstone for the Navy’s approach to competition and innovation in the development of information tools.

• Open source software is finding its way into operational systems.

• Open technology processes offer a different paradigm for software capability development, testing and acquisition.

Open Technology continues to build momentum and gain acceptance as a viable part of DoD's enterprise IT fabric, and yet DoD faces a variety of cultural, process, and technical challenges in adopting open technologies.

There are three ways to register for this conference.

Registrations after October 24 must be on-site and at the on-site conference rate.

Registrations will not be taken over the phone. Payment must be made at the time
of registration.

Cancellations, Substitutions, and Requests for Refunds:
All cancellations, substitutions, and requests for refunds must be done so in writing to
Betsy Lauer via email at blauer@afei.org. Cancellation requests received before 10/24/2008 receive a refund minus a $75 administrative fee. Refunds can not be issued for no-shows.

NOTE: No refunds for cancellations received after 10/25/2008.

Substitutions welcome in lieu of cancellation!

Confirmations and Receipts

You will receive an emailed confirmation after you use the CONFIRM button on the web page. When registering online, please review your information then “submit” and “confirm” your entry. PLEASE check your account information for accuracy (i.e.: spelling of name, address, company name, email address, phone number, etc.).  If all required information is input correctly, you will see “Thank you for your registration!”. If you do not receive an emailed confirmation after submitting your registration, your registration is incomplete and was not received. Please call Betsy Lauer at (703) 247-9473 for assistance.

How to Register for Others or Multiple Attendees On-Line
If you are registering another person or co-worker, (e.g. if you are registering your boss and/or co-worker(s), company/agency credit card holder registering several people, etc.), you must enter the respective email address, customer/member ID and password for each person you are registering, using their Customer ID account profile to register them.  For assistance please call Betsy Lauer.

Identification Badges
Each attendee will be provided with an identification badge during registration. This badge must be worn while attending the event. All attendees must present a valid, government picture ID (Driver's License), when picking up their badge. Conference badges are to be worn at all times during the event.

The appropriate dress for this conference:
