Cyber: The new warfighting domain

Purpose

This is the fourth in the series of Warfighter’s Vision Conferences. Previous conferences focused on CENTCOM, SOCOM, and STRATCOM. These conferences are intended to give voice to the warfighter with the acquisition community and industry. This conference brings stories from the tactical edge on how net-centricity is, or is not working and bridges the gap between the warfighting community and those who provide them capability.

The Cyber Domain is emerging as a key area where the net-centric vision of DoD is under continuous, serious threat. Defending and securing the Global Information Grid (GIG) and the Joint Information Environment is a critical task.
In the future, operations must occur seamlessly over joint information environments that provide necessary capabilities to protect assets and project power in the cyber warfighting domain.

This conference examines the new cyber warfighting environment against the backdrop of emerging communications and information technology. The future joint information environment will provide a rich user experience, build essential communities and relationships, and harness the collective intelligence of these communities. This environment must be secure and defended from threats to information and networks.
DoD needs a secure, collaborative environment that takes advantage of distributed applications and data, advanced voice over IP (VOIP), rich multi-media collaboration capabilities, high availability networks, cloud computing, wireless and mesh connectivity, sensor networks, low latency, and infrastructure consolidation.

By attending this event you will

  • Discover the emerging concepts for GIG 2.0 and security
  • Learn what J6 leaders feel are their urgent requirements for Global Information Grid 2.0 as the platform for Web 2.0-like services and applications.
  • Interact with leaders and decision makers from industry and government to get your viewpoint heard and understood.
  • Understand what you need to do to improve your position and that of your organization with regard to critical opportunities and requirements.
  • Contact the important players who are driving the requirements of interoperability for the purpose of achieving common operating pictures in joint/coalition operations.
  • Meet the key principals in the J6/COCOMs/DISA who are driving the capabilities and advancements and who need technical innovation in order to accomplish their mission objectives.

The purpose of the Warfighter's Vision Conference is to give voice to the warfighter on information and communications capabilities necessary to assure mission performance in both joint and coalition environments.  The conference provides:

  • A forum for discussing topics of concern to COCOMs with industry and DoD officials
  • Input to DoD policy makers regarding needs and priorities
