The Center for Advanced Logistics Management is pleased to host this event as a part of its on-going research and education efforts. ASU is partnered with Albany Technical College.
Information technology is being leveraged to provide enormous competitive advantage in globally connected supply chains. Technology is a source of innovation and competitive advantage, but it also makes supply chains vulnerable to cyber threats.
Advanced supply chains recognize and manage risk, and build security and resilience while they optimize performance.
IT underpins all of the elements of supply chain management. Sharing of information across processes in the supply chain affect everything from materials extraction and sourcing through manufacturing, transportation, distribution, finance, payments, security and customer relations.
DoD relies heavily on private-sector infrastructure for its supply chains.
While supply chains move materials through normal distribution channels (air, sea and land-based shipping), supply chain information travels on the Internet. Today we know that security and resiliency in information and communications infrastructures is insufficient, resulting in serious vulnerabilities for supply chains.
The risks and vulnerabilities in an improperly managed supply chain, from counterfeit equipment to malware to other avenues of attack, are real and growing. The Defense Department, through efforts such as the Trusted Foundry program and use of standards like Common Criteria (ISO/IEC 15408) is working to reduce its supply chain vulnerability footprint. This is not a small problem. Some have recommended government measures that mandate significant consequences for having inadequate cyber protections and requirements for reporting breaches and penetrations.
DoD programs that are mission critical or essential to national security or national defense have stepped up the requirements for compliance with DoD directives and Public Law requiring trusted components in the most important defense systems.
Agencies and departments are developing policies to keep a more watchful eye on vendors, partners, and others in their cyber supply chains and adopt best practices for mitigating risks across their systems and processes to protect your system against backdoor access or other deliberate mischief.

Logistics and Six Sigma: The Focus

Logistics is the management of the flow of goods between the point of origin and the point of destination in order to meet the requirements of customers or corporations. Lean Six Sigma is a management discipline that systematically eliminates “waste” and “defects” improving the economics of processes to increase customer satisfaction and loyalty. The common focus in these definitions is the customer. The desire of both Logistics and Lean Six Sigma is to meet and ultimately exceed the requirements of the customer. Logistics is a process and Lean Six Sigma is a methodology that enables the logistician to enhance the quality of their process resulting in increased customer loyalty and bottom line performance.
Instructor Bio
Dr. Steve Eidson has been employed as a full time instructor at Albany Technical College since November, 2002. His work in the Economic Development Division involves assisting in the coordination of the Business Logistics and Six Sigma programs as well as teaching in both.
He received his Doctorate in Conflict Management from Trinity University, Chicago, IL in 1991. He also holds a Master Certificate in Six Sigma from Villanova University and is a Certified Economic Developer Trainer (CEDT) within the Technical College System of Georgia.
He has been married to Sherri for 43 years and they have three adult children and six grandchildren. |

DoD Trusted Mission Systems & Program Protection

Part 1 of the workshop provides an interactive and comprehensive overview of the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative on Supply Chain Risk Management (CNCI-SCRM) and how it is shaping development of Trusted Mission Systems & Networks.
Mr. Davidson also provides insight into ongoing activities with respect to countering the effects of counterfeits in the Department of Defense global supply chain.
Part 2 of the workshop describes how to build a Program Protection Plan and the requirements for various acquisition programs. It also addresses impacts on program offices and suppliers.
Instructor Bio
 Mr. Davidson is currently assigned to Trusted Mission Systems and Networks (TMSN, formerly known as the Globalization Task Force, GTF) in the Office of the Department of Defense Chief Information Officer (DoD CIO), where he leads the outreach, S&T investment and standardization efforts for the White House’s Comprehensive National CyberSecurity Initiative (CNCI) task #11 on improving Supply Chain Risk Management for Information Communications Technology capabilities (ICT SCRM).
He has over 37 years of federal service, to include 11 years active duty, as well as civilian assignments in Army Research Laboratory, Army Materiel Command, Army Secretariat, US Joint Forces Command, OUSD-Acquisition, Technology & Logistics (AT&L), and OASD-Networks and Information Integration (NII), which is now only known as the DoD-Chief Information Office (CIO). |

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation requests received before January 31 will receive a full refund. Cancellation requests made between February 1 and 15, will receive a refund minus a $75 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations received after February 16, 2012. Substitutions are welcome in lieu of cancellations, as long as there is no financial transaction.
