Co-located NDIA Event
This event is co-located with the NDIA 2014 Joint Armaments Forum, Exhibition & Technology Demonstration being held at the Phoenix Convention Center, Phoenix, Arizona, May 12-15, 2014. The Joint Armaments program theme is "Balancing Armament Innovation and Readiness Improvements within Budget Constraints”.

Technology Demonstration:
The Joint Armaments Forum will be conducting a technology demonstration on Thursday, May 15, at Cowtown Range Facilities, Phoenix, AZ. Attendees at the CYBERWEST event may purchase tickets to attend the arms demonstration for $75, which includes a box lunch.
Buses will depart from the Phoenix Convention Center at 11 am. You must be a registered attendee/exhibitor for the CYBERWEST Summit in order to attend the technology demonstration.

Abstract Submission Now Closed!
Abstracts may be submitted for two areas of the Summit: Breakout Sessions and Workshops.
Breakout Sessions – May 13, 2014
Breakout sessions are presentations grouped under themed topics. Each presentation can be no longer than 45 minutes. Panel sessions can also be proposed with no more than four speakers. Abstracts should be no more than 75 words (quarter page single spaced) and show how the presentation supports the theme of the breakout session. Any speaker proposing more than one talk MUST enter them separately.
The topic for each session is
Breakout Session 1 - Building for 2020: Aviation and Cyber Moderator: Robert Mansfield, Executive Director, CAAL The nation’s airspace systems are reliant on secure data, and the integration of UAVs represents an additional layer of complexity. This session addresses cyber impacts on NextGen for commercial air and the growing UAV use in the US.
Breakout Session 2 - Growing the Cyber Workforce Moderator: Dr. Jon Haas, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Access to trained, qualified individuals is a common challenge for public and private sector. The session will address STEM education and Academic/Industry partnerships that are preparing our workforce to to better deal with cybersecurity complexities.
Breakout Session 3 - Combating the Threat Moderator: TBD This session addresses what can be done today to combat the ever-present threat from hactivists, criminals and nation states, and what enterprises should be preparing for in the future. It will also address the consumer-driven growth of mobility and the consequences that is having on security architectures and protocols across public and private sector.
Breakout Session 4 - Legal and Economic Impact of Cybersecurity Moderator TBD The real data breach consequences to business are all measured in terms of economics. This session examines cybersecurity from that perspective and addresses topics such as equity markets, valuation, legal liabilities, loss of intellectual property, risk management, loss prevention, and insurance.
Workshops – May 14, 2014
Workshops are half-day education and training sessions on specific topics that allow audience and speakers to spend time examining each topic to a deeper level of understanding. Each workshop can be no longer than 4 hours. Workshops may have multiple speakers and may be organized can also be proposed with no more than four speakers. Abstracts should be no more than 150 words (Half page single spaced text) and show how the presentation supports the theme of the workshop. In addition, alternate workshop topics may be proposed, but only four workshops will be held. Below are suggested workshop topics:
Workshop 1 - Academia and Corporate Partnership Programs A discussion of how industry helps academia understand what they need in terms of education, training and skills.
Workshop 2 – Defense Manufacturing Cybersecurity A presentation of the paper by the NDIA Joint Working Group on Cyber in Defense Manufacturing followed by discussion on specific actions and challenges for Defense manufacturing, and discussion of the DFAR rules on cyber incident reporting.
Workshop 3 – Cyber R&D A discussion of transition to practice, SBIR initiatives, and other R&D needs and efforts that are designed to deliver innovative solutions to cyber challenges.
Workshop 4 – Understanding and Applying the NIST Cybersecurity Framework A presentation of the recently released NIST Cybersecurity Framework and a facilitated discussion of how the framework addresses privacy and civil liberties, implementation needs and profiles, framework taxonomy and areas needing further development (authentication; automated indicator sharing; conformity assessment; cybersecurity workforce; data analytics; international aspects; privacy standards; and supply chain risk management).

Abstracts must be submitted on-line and all information regarding speaker(s) must be filled in. The abstract submission site will begin accepting abstracts on March 7, 2014, and can be accessed via CyberWest web site at Http://www.afei.org/events/4A06. Authors will be notified of their selection on April 14, 2014.
